Established in 1983, the Coastal Chamber Orchestra comprises former and current students of Slovenian coastal music schools, students of the Koper Art Grammar School and their teachers, as well as students of the Academy of Music in Ljubljana who were brought together by their desire for collective music-making. The orchestra fosters appreciation of orchestral music among wider audiences, offers young soloists the opportunity to play to orchestral accompaniment, performs works by national composers and enriches the cultural life of the Slovenian Coast. As well as developing into one of the crucial mainstays of cultural life in Slovenian Istria, the orchestra has established itself internationally and holds concerts both around Slovenia and abroad. The Coastal Chamber Orchestra has worked with several national and international soloists and choirs, played at all major cultural commemorations in the Slovenian Coast and released several cassettes and records, primarily comprising works by Slovenian composers ranging from baroque to new music.

Gimnazija Kranj Girls' Choir was founded in 2002 and has taken part at numerous international competitions (Italy, Croatia, Great Britain, Slovakia, Austria, Spain, South Korea) where they were awarded in total 20 gold and 2 silver diplomas. Although the choir members stay in the choir for four years only, they nevertheless manage to maintain high level of quality. The choir regularly performs in Kranj and the surrounding area. Together with the school orchestra they have produced a Christmas concert, performed in Ljubljana and released on national television for the past eight years. Current choir director Erik Šmid lead choir to international competition in Prague 2017 and to Llangolen International Eisteddfod in Wales last year being the first choir to represent Slovenia at this renowned event. In 2019 the choir took part at Aegis Carminis competition in Koper, receiving yet another golden diploma.

The Girls’ Choir of the Koper Music School evolved from the Koper Music School Youth Choir. The choir has been singing for nine years under the leadership of Maja Cilenšek and regularly scores at the top of international competitions. In July of 2015, the choir participated in the “Incanto Mediterraneo” international competition in Milazzo, where they won the gold medal, placed second, and received special commendation for best performance of the mandatory composition. In September of 2017, they were awarded 95 points at the “International Baltic Sea Choir Competition” winning second place; they also received the award for best performance of the mandatory composition Lux Aeterna by Ēriks Ešenvalds.

The Mixed Choir Obala Koper was founded in 1977 and it has been led by a number of successful conductors. Since 2017, the leader is the renowned composed Andrej Makor. Obala has won 12 gold plates at the national choral competition “Naša pesem” in Maribor and a number of first prizes and awards at foreign competitions: the latest achievements come from Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Italy. The singers are also especially proud of various projects that they have realized and of the International Choir Festival Koper, which will have its 13th edition this year.

The Slovene stoner/doom metal group Omega Sun was established in Koper in 2013. The band performs at domestic and foreign venues, sharing the stage with bands, the likes of Unida, Kylesa, Dopethrone, Stoner Kebab, Three Eyes Left and others.

Singer-songwriter and folk-rock musician Rudi Bučar is dedicated to nurturing Istria’s rich musical heritage. He embarked on his music career as member of Spirits. Inspired by Luciano Kleva, Rudi developed an interest in Istrian musical tradition and started collecting old Istrian folk songs. This material is featured on his solo albums “Kapot” (2004) and “Kambiament” (2007). He was backing vocalist for Slovenian contestant Alenka Gotar at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki. The following year, he took part in the Sounds of Slovenia project (Sozvočja Slovenije). In 2009, Rudi formed his own rock band, Rudi & The Cool Vibes. That same year marked the first in a string of Rudi’s successes at Slovenian music festivals. In a duet with Alya, Rudi appeared at EMA – the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest – with the song “Zadnji dan.” His composition “Samo ti” performed by Anika Horvat was the winning song of the Slovenian Song Festival. Two years later he appeared at the Slovenian Song Festival with a self-penned song, “Naj traja,” which received the Grand Jury Prize for Best Overall Composition. In 2011, Rudi started a music project – Istrabend – with Janez Dovč and Goran Krmac. In 2012, the band took part in the revived Melodies of the Sea and Sun Festival with the song “Slon” and released an album, “Rudi in Istrabend”. That same year Rudi again played at the Slovenian Song Festival, performing his song “Še malo”. In 2013, Rudi wrote the music for “The Servant of Two Masters,” a theatre performance directed by Kokan Mladenović and co-produced by Koper Theatre. In 2014, he took part in all three major Slovenian music festivals and carried the day at two of them: he performed with Elevators (“Tja”) at EMA, took the prize at the Melodies of the Sea and Sun Festival with Frčafele (“Sen znala jes”) and his song “Ti” was selected as Best Overall Composition – and Rudi presented with Best Performance Award – at the Slovenian Song Festival. The album “Kantajmo” by vocal quartet 7 plus, to which Rudi contributed as songwriter and arranger, came out in May 2014.

Tom Varl (1998) enrolled at the theoretical department of the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana (KGBL) in 2013. In 2015, he began attending solo singing lessons at the KGBL music school. In 2017, he started studying composition at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana (AG) in the class of prof. Vito Žuraj. Singing in the KGBL Chamber Choir fascinated him, so he started conducting. He leads the vocal group of Ivan Cankar. In 2019, he successfully presented himself at the International Conducting Competition Aegis carminis in Koper and passed the entrance examinations to the choral conducting studies at the Academy of music. In addition to his studies, he also teaches solfeggio at the Edgar Willems Music Centre in Ljubljana and at the DoReMi Music Center, and since September 2020 he has been a ballet accompanist at the KGBL. As a conductor and vocal teacher, he has collaborated with various ensembles, such as the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, Chamber choir of the Ljubljana Conservatory of music and Academy of Music, Academic choir Tone Tomšič andf the University of Primorska Mixed Academic Choir
