The Faculty of Education, University of Maribor, was established in 1961. Art education is traditionally provided by two of the Faculty’s departments – the Music Department and Fine Art Department.

Muzikaviva Music Club

Institution

The Muzikaviva Music Club is a voluntary society of musicians and music lovers. Music sections are formed according to families of instruments and music genres.

National and University Library of Slovenia Musical Collection

Institution

In 1948, a musical collection was instated as a subdivision of the National and University Library’s Special Collections Division. Forming part of the National Library’s holdings, the department provides for collecting, processing, maintaining, providing access to, as well as safekeeping and preserving the core national collection of library materials in Slovenian, about Slovenia and Slovenians, about Slovenian authors, Slovenian record companies, members of the Italian and Hungarian national minorities, the Roma community and other ethnic minorities living in Slovenia (i.e. the National Library’s core holdings related to national studies known as slovenika).

Piano Teachers Association Slovenia

With the aim of facilitating pedagogical, educational, artistic and scientific progress, and fostering cooperation, the Piano Teachers Association Slovenia brings together piano, organ and harpsichord teachers on all levels and modules of education, as well as piano, organ and harpsichord performers and students already teaching these instruments. The Association’s basic goals are encouraging the development of Slovenian piano pedagogy and interpretation, as well as their international promotion, improving professional education of piano, organ and harpsichord teachers and consequently the quality of teaching, raising public awareness about this field of artistic creativity and promoting public appreciation of music.

SIGIC - Slovenian Music Information Centre

SIGIC – Slovenian Music Information Centre creates a database of music spanning all genres and historical periods, publishes a web music magazine Odzven, promotes Slovenian music and music artists both nationally and internationally, releases audio recordings and issues publications on music and musical events, and organises scientific conferences, meetings and lectures on music-related topics. Pursuing an “open door” policy, it is readily accessible to the interested public (providing information virtually, on its website, as well as on site – at the SIGIC centre by its professional associates) and works in partnership with artists and institutions – creators, providers and organisers of Slovenia’s music life.

Slovenian Chamber Music Theatre

Institution

Slovenian Chamber Music Theatre was founded in 1996. Aims of SKGG are performing chamber operas from all periods, especially works from the period of baroque music and contemporary works of foreign and Slovenian composers.

Slovenian Musicological Society

Institution

The Slovenian Musicological Society (SMD) is a professional association of musicologists and other individuals active in the field of musicology. The Society’s basic goal is to establish musicology as a distinct independent discipline and work in partnership with organisations and institutions dedicated to musicology and other related fields. The Slovenian Musicological Society’s main tasks are enhancing and supporting professional education and work of its members, planning and organising scientific and professional conferences and participating in scientific meetings abroad, publishing scientific publications on musicology, addressing relevant issues relating to musicology, as well as organising and implementing scientific talks.

Slovenian Organ Society

Slovenian Organ Society was founded on 17th February, 2001 and has the following tasks and objectives: - establishingt of the organ as an artistic musical instrument in Slovenia, - progressing the expertise in the field of organ education (organisation of lectures, courses, summer schools, etc.), - providing professional opinion and suggestions in the field of organ education, - advising on the care of the organ (building, maintenance, restoration), - co-operation with Church and State regarding issues of organ expertise, - organising and co-ordinating activities such as concerts, music festivals, competitions, etc., - co-operation with media, publishing (the publishing of proceedings, translating, writing and publishing of professional literature), - encouraging the writing and performance of new organ literature, - social meetings and the exchange of experiences.

Slovenian Voice Teachers Association

The Slovenian Voice Teachers Association was established in 2001 with the aim of promoting and fostering all facets of vocal music, from teaching voice to vocal performances and concerts. The Slovenian Voice Teachers Association caters to the needs of its members: explorers of the dimensions of the human voice, professional voice teachers, music teachers, choirmasters, music educators, presenters, and speech and language therapists, as well as those seeking to gain an insight into the human voice and vocal music.

Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers for Copyright Protection in Slovenia - SAZAS

SAZAS Society k.o. is a collective management organisation for the protection and promotion of musical authors' rights in Slovenia. SAZAS connects authors' creativeness with publics – music users, collects royalties for the public use of music within the territory of the Republic of Slovenia, distributes the collected royalties to authors or right holders and promotes authors creativeness in music. SAZAS works for the best benefit of all stakeholders: (1) composers, authors and right holders; (2) music users (3) society.
