Established in 1993, the international Lent Festival is among the largest open-air festivals in Europe and the most prolific intercultural festival in Slovenia. It starts at the end of June and lasts for a week. Music and dance performances as well as theatre events fill many venues in Maribor, mostly at the riverside area of old Maribor known as Lent, where concerts take place on a floating stage on the water of the Drava river. Each year it presents around 300 diverse cultural performances and events on different stages, including various styles of popular and classical music, rock, ballet, jazz, chanson, folklore, revivalist folk, and busking music.
