Noctiferia’s debut album, Baptism at Savica Fall, solidified the band’s reputation as pioneers of Slovenia’s black metal movement. It was already in the early stages of their career (the band was started in 1996) that the need emerged for more than one metal genre to fuel their music expression. Noctiferia rose to international fame after having signed with the American Arctic Music Group label, which reissued their Per Aspera album and took on its global promotion and distribution. Per Aspera was internationally re-released in 2003 and immediately garnered rave reviews and worldwide exposure. Noctiferia embarked on a promotional tour and performed in eighteen European cities as the opening act for the bands Cannibal Corpse, Marduk and Kataklysm. The following year saw the second re-release of Per Aspera (reissue for the US market featuring a bonus video) and a limited edition of their debut album Baptism at Savica Fall (featuring bonus tracks) released on Master of Metal. Noctiferia again toured Europe, this time with Malevolent Creation, Marduk and Immolation. They played twenty-four concerts and enjoyed huge success especially in England, Scotland and Ireland where the media coverage was exceptionally favourable, and the album was particularly well received among fans. In 2004, Noctiferia were the headliners at the Metal Camp Festival and appeared at several European outdoor festivals. They were featured at the No Mercy Festival, and shared the stage with Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy and other bands in Belgium and The Netherlands. Following their spectacular first tour of China in 2015, Noctiferia were invited to perform at the 2017 Midi Festival, one of China’s largest rock music festivals held in the vicinity of Shanghai.

The Novo mesto Symphony Orchestra, the pride of the Novo mesto Music Conservatory, comprises more than ninety musicians. String, wing, brass and percussion teachers form a constituent part of the symphony orchestra. They set an example and offer guidance to the young musicians – both former and current music school students taking their first foray into orchestral playing. However, this does not mean that the orchestra is not open to contributions from other performers. For a number of years, the symphony has extended invitations to a long list of professional soloists, primarily vocalists from different countries and cultural backgrounds. Additionally, both talented students and Music Conservatory teachers are offered a chance to perform with the orchestra as soloists. Each school year, the Symphony Orchestra of the Marjan Kozina Music Conservatory from Novo mesto presents a concert repertoire featuring compositions by Slovenian and foreign composers. The symphony orchestra of the Music Conservatory serves as a complement to the school’s vocal-instrumental study programme and gives students an opportunity to gain practical experience in ensemble playing.

The Oberkrainer Quintett (Slovenian: Gorenjski kvintet) hails from the birthplace of the Avsenik Brothers, the village of Begunje na Gorenjskem. The ensemble started out on its music career in 1997 as a trio, eventually developed into a quintet and was subsequently joined by a male and female vocalist. Whilst primarily focused on the original Avsenik music, Oberkrainer Quintett has a broad repertoire of their own folk-pop compositions, which have captivated the audiences at various folk-pop music festivals and featured on numerous TV and radio shows. Over the past years the Oberkrainer Quintett has regularly appeared at the Avsenik Festival. While primarily performing to Slovenian audiences, the Quintett has a devoted international following, playing mostly in German-speaking countries where the ensemble is known under its German name, the Oberkrainer Quintett.

The Oberkrainer aus Begunje folk-pop ensemble (Slovenian: Veseli Begunjčani) was started in 2007. Before joining the ensemble, all musicians were members of different folk-pop groups and have extensive experience of playing professionally both at home and abroad. They all hail from the village of Begunje na Gorenjskem or its environs. Paying tribute to folk-pop music and the Avsenik Brothers Ensemble, the band takes its name from a happy ‘tune’ written by the Avseniks as far back as in 1954, titled “Veseli Begunjčani” (Merry People from Begunje). Members of the Oberkrainer aus Begunje swear by the authentic folk pop ‘quintet’ music, i.e. music pioneered by the Avsenik Ensemble.
