NOVA Philharmonic

Artist

The NOVA Philharmonic was founded on the initiative of the NOVA Music Society in 2010. The youth symphony orchestra consists of about eighty musicians from the Goriška and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions, secondary and university students attending Slovenian and Italian conservatories and academies, gifted primary school students and amateurs. The orchestra’s carefully selected concert programmes transcend the limitations of the genre and appeal to a broad spectrum of audiences, and its standard classical repertoire testifies to the musicians’ artistic prowess. The orchestra is setting new trends in the area of young musicians’ cultural creativity.

Novo mesto Symphony Orchestra

Artist

The Novo mesto Symphony Orchestra, the pride of the Novo mesto Music Conservatory, comprises more than ninety musicians. String, wing, brass and percussion teachers form a constituent part of the symphony orchestra. They set an example and offer guidance to the young musicians – both former and current music school students taking their first foray into orchestral playing. However, this does not mean that the orchestra is not open to contributions from other performers. For a number of years, the symphony has extended invitations to a long list of professional soloists, primarily vocalists from different countries and cultural backgrounds. Additionally, both talented students and Music Conservatory teachers are offered a chance to perform with the orchestra as soloists. Each school year, the Symphony Orchestra of the Marjan Kozina Music Conservatory from Novo mesto presents a concert repertoire featuring compositions by Slovenian and foreign composers. The symphony orchestra of the Music Conservatory serves as a complement to the school’s vocal-instrumental study programme and gives students an opportunity to gain practical experience in ensemble playing.

Oberdixie Band

Artist

Music, which has always made people ecstatically transcend into a dancing trot: the polka, be it either ornamented with the gild of the Viennese court of the Strauss brothers, the clearly recognizable Slovenian melodics of the brothers Slavko and Vilko Avsenik, or Dixieland music, which is basically a march with an emphasized back beat and, just like the polka, a two-beat musical form. The successful synthesis of the music of the Avsenik brothers and other excellent performers of this music genre daringly combined with the Dixieland playing style of the Oberdixie Band and its top Slovenian academic musicians is therefore not surprising, as both music genres have grown from the same roots and, though differing in time and space, they awaken the same joyful feelings of soul salvation, which great art can conjure up, such as the music of the Avseniks undoubtedly is.

Over the past years the Oberkrainer Quintett has regularly appeared at the Avsenik Festival. While primarily performing to Slovenian audiences, the Quintett has a devoted international following, playing mostly in German-speaking countries where the ensemble is known under its German name, the Oberkrainer Quintett.

Obrekrainer aus Begunje

The Oberkrainer aus Begunje folk-pop ensemble (Slovenian: Veseli Begunjčani) was started in 2007. Before joining the ensemble, all musicians were members of different folk-pop groups and have extensive experience of playing professionally both at home and abroad. They all hail from the village of Begunje na Gorenjskem or its environs. Paying tribute to folk-pop music and the Avsenik Brothers Ensemble, the band takes its name from a happy ‘tune’ written by the Avseniks as far back as in 1954, titled “Veseli Begunjčani” (Merry People from Begunje). Members of the Oberkrainer aus Begunje swear by the authentic folk pop ‘quintet’ music, i.e. music pioneered by the Avsenik Ensemble.
