Barbara Grahor Vovk

Artist

Barbara Grahor Vovk is a Slovenian jazz and classical violist, composer, arranger, conductor, and pedagogue, In March of 2018, she received her master’s degree summa cum laude at the Ljubljana Academy of Music. Already during her studies, she audited classes in jazz harmony and jazz arrangement, which further strengthened her bond to jazz and improvisation. She is currently finishing her second master’s degree in jazz improvisation for strings with Prof. Gregor Hübner at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, where she also resides and creates. Both as violist and composer, she wants to transcend the boundaries between classical music and jazz and thereby bring fresh ideas to the stage and to her work with others. She creates both as a soloist and in assorted chamber ensembles – the Samo & Barbara duo, in a duo with pianist Shuteen Erdenebaatar, in the NOVA string quartet, and in various professional orchestras. She is currently one of the art directors of the NOVA chamber orchestra.

Barbara Jernejčič Fürst

Mezzo-soprano Barbara Jernejčič is noted for being among a handful of vocalists whose main focus of interest is primarily music by contemporary Slovenian composers (having premiered over 50 new works). She has established herself as an operatic soloist and concert singer. Barbara Jernejčič also devotes her time to teaching.

Barbara Kozelj

Slovenian mezzosoprano Barbara Kozelj debuted with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2013. After that her career has taken flight. A Carnegie Hall debut the year after in St. Matthew Passion with Iván Fischer received critical acclaim, describing her voice as “deep and dark” and “enchanting”.

Batista Cadillac

Batista Cadillac, a six-piece soul/funk band named after a vintage car from the pre-Castro Cuban era, won the 2022 Emmys with their song Mim pravil, which was the first runner-up and second overall. Their songs such as as Pust me do besede, Magnolije and Generacija neba were among the top 10 most-played songs on Slovenian radio Val 202 on an annual basis in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Bee Geesus

Bee Geesus is a Slovenian gospel choir. Group of cheerful singers weave vocals in a harmonious, urban sound under the baton of a known A cappella artist Matej Virtic. They call their musical expression Gospel Fever; it is known for its energetic execution of spiritual music with a strong harmony and firm rhythm. The choir remains always faithful to the original message of gospel music, which is no less important today than at the time when it meant a loud cry for personal freedom and hope for all oppressed. With an A cappella execution the Choir Bee Geesus feels especially close to the earliest form of the music, since the spiritual music in the beginning was exclusively vocal. The diverse selection of songs is composed from traditional gospel arrangements, spirituals, modern music with a touch of jazz and related genres of music as well as pop. Bee Geesus, even in the area with a wide range of choral singing, many A cappella groups and a wide variety of Christian artists, offers a unique musical experience.
