Built in 1961, Kino Šiška is one of the finest examples of modernist architecture. The building was designed by Slovenian architect Božidar Gvardjančič. It is positioned in the centre of a suburban neighbourhood, with the main facade overlooking Celovška Street. In 1962, the City of Ljubljana entrusted the running of the building to Ljubljanski kinematografi – Ljubljana Cinemas. The cinema screened films between 1964 and until the end of the 1980s, when attendance decreased, and the building was only available for various events and lectures. The cinema re-opened in 1994. With the arrival of the Kolosej multiplex in 2001, Kino Šiška and its 725-seat cinema were forced to cease operating for the second time. Since 2009, Kino Šiška has served as a main Slovenian institution specialised in contemporary music concerts and complementing visual and performing arts programmes. Location: Ljubljana
