Teatro Miela/Bonawentura aims to give young artists and bands from the Friuli Venezia-Giulia Autonomous Region, as well as from neighboring Slovenia and Croatia, with the opportunity to share and promote their music. The Miela Music Contest is both a competition and a chance to gather, exchange ideas, and connect through music.

This event was first conceived in early 2021, with the inaugural edition held at Teatro Miela. Due to the pandemic, the theater was closed to the public and instead served as a set for video recordings of the performances, which were later posted online. Given the circumstances at the time, it was one of the few opportunities for musicians to perform, albeit in a limited capacity. The final night, when winners were announced, took place at the Castle of San Giusto in Trieste with a live audience.

They have chosen to bring back that experience, originally developed in response to an extraordinary situation, as part of the 2024 Miela season. Their goal remains the same: to give visibility to fresh and compelling musical projects. Selected artists and groups will be chosen based on their contemporary relevance and artistic quality. There will be an online voting component, culminating in an in-person audience vote at the December finals at Teatro Miela.

A preliminary selection will be made by a panel of musical experts, musicians, organizers, and live music professionals. A maximum of 20 videos will be chosen and posted online between November 25 and December 8 on a special Miela Music Contest playlist for public voting. A second selection process will determine the 6 artists or bands with the highest combined online votes and expert scores.

Wednesday, December 18, and Thursday, December 19, 2024

Finalists will have the opportunity to perform live at Teatro Miela, with full access to the stage and technical setup. Only on Dec 19 will the performances be open to the public, and each artist or group will have a 30-minute live set to showcase their original music. The audience present will contribute their evaluations to the final ranking.

The top three performers will receive awards of €1,000, €500.00, and €300.00 respectively.
