SPIRAL MIND

Friday, Sep 9th, 19:00 @ WUK Foyer

Hailing from the Slovenian coast, Spiral Mind relies on unstoppable curiosity to create both abstract and concrete timbres and rhythms. The band’s sonic realms stem from a wide array of building blocks, ranging from prog rock and underground dance genres to traditional African polyrhythms. Started in 2016 by Manuel Brajnik, in 2019 he released his debut album “A Play Of Shadows”. Soon, this one-man band turned into a trio with the addition of Rok Babič (Rochwald) on synths, bass and sound effects and Gaj Bostič (from the band P’Jays) on drums/percussion. In 2020, they toured Slovenia as participants of Club Marathon, an annual project run by Radio Študent, and recorded their first songs as a trio. Their debut album as a trio “Lagos”, which they are presenting at this year’s Waves Vienna, is to be released soon on Kapa Records.

3:RMA

Friday, Sep 9th, 20:15 @ The Loft Wohnzimmer

3:rma is a singer-songwriter project by guitarist Urška Supej and vocalist Maša But. Building bridges between music and poetry, the duo takes notes from jazz, pop and folk. 3:rma explores the nuances between sweet melodicism and difficult topics, such as the contrast between ideals and reality. Through the beauty of hearing and the message behind their music they want to stimulate the consideration of topics and problems that people tend to ignore. On their debut album “A well-paved road”, which was produced by guitarist Femi Temowa, the duo explored the multifaceted nature of this kind of musical expression with the help of various collaborators. Inspirational and unusual songwriting in the mould of Bob Dylan, Laura Marling and Leonard Cohen.

SAHAREYA

Saturday, Sep 10th, 19:15 @ WUK Halle (presented by Canal+)

Currently one of the most promising and ambitious Slovenian talents, the 22-year-old rapper, singer, dancer and actress of Syrian-Croatian origins is here to make a statement. Her musical expression, the fruit of collaboration with her brother, producer and MC SunnySun, is a highly explosive cocktail of contemporary hip-hop, trap, R&B and footwork tropes, and bouncy club rhythms from the UK and beyond sprinkled with some Arab influences. Her infectious feel-good hit “Otherside” made us all jump on the Sahareya hype train. But the hype is real, and we are now all waiting for her debut album “Improvised Colors” to drop. Pure girl power in the tradition of icons like M.I.A. and Little Simz.
