Academic Choir France Prešeren Kranj

The Academic Choir France Prešeren Kranj was founded in 1969. Since its very beginning, the choir has been highly ambitious. The choir frequently participates in both domestic and international festivals and competitions, where usually achieves the highest awards and prizes. It has performed in the large majority of the European countries, as well as in Israel, Mexico, the United States of America, Argentina, Chile and Russia. Choir performs songs of all musical genres: classical, folk, popular, gospel, musicals, and more. Since the foundation the choir performed almost 1000 different musical pieces. In the last years, the choir has performed two great, wonderful vocal-instrumental projects, first presented to the Slovenian audience: Requiem for the Living by Dan Forrest in 2016 and Misa Tango by Martin Palmieri in 2017. Throughout the choir’s fruitful period of existence, several world-famous names have cooperated with the choir, including Uros Lajovic, Fabio Luisi, Eric Ericson, John Rutter, Ariel Ramirez, Gary Graden, Riccardo Muti, Valerij Gergiev and Matthias Bamert. Since 2013 the choir has been lead and conducted by Fernando Pablo Mejias.

Academic Choir Maribor

The Academic Choir Maribor has been creating music within the cultural society KUD Študent, which also includes the Student Folklore Group Študent, since 1964. It is one of the main bearers of student, youth and amateur culture in Maribor; at the same time, APZ Maribor is the ambassador of our country on many international gatherings, competitions and festivals. The singers, mostly students of various faculties, have been creating high-quality music for many years. The first conductor of the choir was Stane Jurgec, who successfully led the choir from the very beginning until 1991. The choir, which was first named the Academic Choir Boris Kraigher, was founded under the patronage of the University of Maribor. In accordance with the new period that was yet to come, the choir changed its name to the Academic Choir Maribor in 1991 and has retained its name until today. The choir also performed under the baton of Ivan Vrbančič, Alenka Korpar, Simon Robinson, Jože Fürst, Jasmina Dobaj and Zsuzsa Budavari Novak. The excellent composer and choir director Tadeja Vulc has been their conductor and artistic leader since 2012. The 50-member choir is very successful at international competitions and festivals at home and abroad, at organizing individual concerts and participating in various projects every season.

Academic Choir of the University of Primorska

The Academic Choir of the University of Primorska offers one of the most active social activities for students and other music enthusiasts. Activities are free of charge, on a high quality level. The choir also organises concerts of classical music and enriches concert activity on the Slovenian coast. Singers regularly present themselves at concerts and competitions at home and abroad with great success.

Academic Choir Tone Tomšič of the University of Ljubljana

The Academic choir Tone Tomšič of the university of Ljubljana includes student of all Faculties of the university who wish to perform in a high level choral ensemble. The choir continues the tradition of the Academic choir founded by the famous slovenian conductor France Marolt. Since 2015 the choir is led by Jerica Bukovec. From it's formation the choir is on the vanguard of contemporary slovene choral music, both with regards to the quality of performances and the selection of music. The choir performs concerts and other forms of choral performances in Slovenia and abroad, and is a regular of the most important concert stages in Europe. The choir has also recieved many itnernational awards and national recognitions. The most important are undoubtedly two victories at the European Grand Prix competitoion in 2002 and 2008. At the last national choral competition 'Naša pesem' in Maribor the choir recieved the gold plaque and special recognition for the best performance of contemporary slovene and international pieces.

Academy of Music

Institution

The Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana is the only musical arts institute of higher education in Slovenia and an establishment of special national significance. It is the alma mater of many outstanding musicians, among them two honorary doctors of the University of Ljubljana, Irena Grafenauer and Igor Ozim. In 1975, the Academy of Music became a member of the University of Ljubljana. The number of students has been constantly increasing and currently stands at around 500.

Adi Smolar gave his first concert in 1981. Today he is one of the most prolific singer-songwriters and musicians in Slovenia. He is the recipient of many awards, both from the professional public and his fan base.

Whereas Gustaf Hall’s diverse range of activities is primarily focused on music, the venue hosts various events in the areas of culture, education, society and youth (lectures, round-table discussions, workshops, humanitarian and community activities, theatre, multimedia events, video and film screenings, etc.). Vital to the existence of the city of Maribor’s independent culture, the space at the same time provides the conditions for the creativity and artistic growth of different interest groups and individuals. Considering that one of the Gustaf Society for Cultural Activities’ primary goals is to provide space and equipment for creative music practice, many exceptional Maribor-based bands have come into existence or established their residence here (Coma Stereo, Muškat Hamburg, Blutwurst, Nina Bulatovix, etc.).
