Festival
The Festival Jazz Cerkno has been taking place in May since 1996 in the covered town square of Cerkno. Three evenings feature performances by musicians from around the world, ranging from established to less known artists, whose common purpose is inovative jazz music and the broadening of musical horizons in general. The type of jazz music that Jazz Cerkno offers is never obvious, since the programme focuses on unconventional and creative tones, on the collision of cultures and their musical practices, as well as the meshing of different approaches, with which jazz usually seeps into other genres. Rock, electronic, early and contemporary classical music, experimental and traditional ethnic idioms are thus interlaced with jazz music.
Label
The Jazz Cerkno label was founded in 2018 with the aim of publishing music by Slovenian artists working in the field of jazz, improvised and creative music. They also offer publishing support to promising young musicians and their projects. An important mission of the label, in addition to the quality production of sound carriers, is also the promotion of Slovenian creativity with the goal of greater recognition of Slovenian musicians in the international arena. Even before the start of the label, the institute recorded concerts from the Jazz Cerkno festival. The result of archiving recordings of high-quality performers and original and unrepeatable performances attracted the interest of musicians as well as domestic and foreign labels, who often approached them with the desire to release recordings. Therefore, the establishment of their own publishing activity was a logical consequence and upgrade of their activity. As a co-publisher of albums with concert recordings from their festival, they also cooperated with the Cerkno label PureZen Records, with which they started the "Live at Jazz Cerkno" series in 2014. All Jazz Cerkno releases are on sale at jazzcerkno.bandcamp.com. Orders are also accepted by e-mail at info@jazzcerkno.si.
